CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – “And then a hero comes along. With the strength to carry on.
And you cast your fears aside. And you know you can survive.”
Was Mariah Carey actually singing about the Cleveland Indians’ friendly neighborhood “good guy,” David Murphy, in the song Hero?
Maybe. Maybe not.
But on Friday night, Murphy stepped in and played the role of hero in front of 15,531 fans at Progressive Field.
In his first at bat since returning from the 15-day disabled list on Friday, the left-handed hitter smoked a pinch-hit run-scoring single to center field to give the Indians a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox, handing Cleveland their 11th walkoff win of the season.
The bases loaded RBI-hit off of White Sox reliever Ronald Belisario came with one down in the bottom of the 10th.
Terry Francona could not think of a better way to welcome Murphy back from the DL.
