CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – In what could be the first of several moves prior to Thursday’s trade deadline, the Cleveland Indians have sent right-handed starter Justin Masterson to the St. Louis Cardinals for Minor League outfielder James Ramsey.
The deal was first reported by Peter Gammons.
Masterson, currently on the 15-day disabled list, was scheduled to be activated from the DL on Friday. Instead, he is sent to St. Louis to fill a void in the Cardinals rotation.
The Tribe’s right-hander has been extremely inconsistent in 2014, going 4-6 with a 5.51 ERA in 19 starts for Cleveland.
In his final five starts before being placed on the DL with right knee inflammation, the 29-year-old allowed 19 runs and 27 hits in 18 innings pitched.
Meanwhile, Ramsey is a 24-year-old outfielder and former first round draft pick of the Cardinals in 2012 MLB Draft.
