Indians Trade RHP Justin Masterson To Cardinals

CBS Cleveland

CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – In what could be the first of several moves prior to Thursday’s trade deadline, the Cleveland Indians have sent right-handed starter Justin Masterson to the St. Louis Cardinals for Minor League outfielder James Ramsey.

The deal was first reported by Peter Gammons.

Masterson, currently on the 15-day disabled list, was scheduled to be activated from the DL on Friday. Instead, he is sent to St. Louis to fill a void in the Cardinals rotation.

The Tribe’s right-hander has been extremely inconsistent in 2014, going 4-6 with a 5.51 ERA in 19 starts for Cleveland.

In his final five starts before being placed on the DL with right knee inflammation, the 29-year-old allowed 19 runs and 27 hits in 18 innings pitched.

Meanwhile, Ramsey is a 24-year-old outfielder and former first round draft pick of the Cardinals in 2012 MLB Draft.

He was slashing .300/.389/.527 at Double-A…

Michael Jordan approves of LeBron James wearing No. 23 once again

When LeBron James changed his jersey number from 23 to 6 upon joining the Miami Heat four years ago, he said (at the urging of Pat Riley) that he did so to honor Michael Jordan, and that if he was no longer going to wear 23, no one should.

Obviously, things have changed.

James has chosen to return to wearing 23 in his second stint with the Cavaliers, but Jordan himself has no hard feelings toward James for going back on his word.

From Chris Broussard of ESPN.com:

“I’m cool with it,” Jordan told ESPN.com via text message Monday morning. “I don’t own a number.” …

“I just think what Michael Jordan has done for the game has to be recognized some way soon,” James, who had worn No, 23 since his sophomore year in high school, said at the time. “There…

Has Kevin Love Asked To Be Traded To The Cleveland Cavaliers?

CBS Cleveland

Has Kevin Love asked to be traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers? He may have according to sources of Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio.

“Minnesota Timberwolves star forward Kevin Love is perhaps adding a new twist to recent trade talks by indicating he wants to be dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers,” Amico wrote in a recent report.

“Multiple league sources told FOX Sports Ohio on Friday they are under the impression Love has relayed his desire for a trade to Cleveland to his agent. Love is represented by Jeff Schwartz. Sources could not say for certain whether Love or Schwartz have made a formal trade request to the Timberwolves.”

If true, Love’s request could unlock the door to the Cavs giving up less in a trade with the Wolves for Love.

Up until now, it was believed Cleveland would need to include first overall pick Andrew Wiggins in a deal with…

Johnny Be Good: Browns Expect Manziel To Behave

CBS Cleveland

BEREA (AP) — Johnny will be good.

That’s what the Browns expect from Johnny Manziel now that training camp is about to start.

Cleveland coach Mike Pettine said he’s not worried about the popular rookie’s wild off-field behavior carrying into the season, and he’s determined not to let any outside influences affect his decision in picking either Manziel or veteran Brian Hoyer to be his starting quarterback.

Pettine, who will open his first training camp on Saturday, discussed Manziel, Pro Bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon’s clouded situation and several other topics during an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Manziel, the former Texas A&M star nicknamed “Johnny Football” for his dazzling skills, made headlines throughout the offseason with his weekend partying. And while most of it was seemingly innocent, a recent photo of him appearing to roll up a dollar bill brought him even more scrutiny.

Pettine said he’s…
